Why
Melon, such as cantaloupe or honeydew, is mostly water and makes a refreshing, hydrating treat, though like watermelon it is fairly low in real nutrition beyond some vitamin C and, in orange varieties, vitamin A. Budgies often enjoy the soft, sweet flesh on a warm day. Because it is so watery, watch for temporarily looser droppings, and keep the portion small so it does not replace more nutritious foods.
How to feed it
Scoop out the seeds and cut a small cube of flesh away from the rind, then offer it in a shallow dish. Do not give the hard rind or the seeds. Melon goes slimy quickly in a warm room, so remove any uneaten piece within an hour or two.
How much & how often
A small cube once or twice a week, especially in warm weather, is plenty. It is more of a hydrating novelty than a nutritious staple, so it should not crowd out better fruit and vegetables.
